The First Baptist Church of Washington will host the fifth annual Jason Chapman 5K Run/ Walk on Saturday, October 14, beginning at 8 a.m. Register in the church office or online at fbcwashingtonga.org.

The “I’d Rather Be In Tignall” Fall Festival will be held on Saturday, November 11, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

The Washington Rotary Club annual Pancake Supper will be held on Friday, October 20, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Washington Wilkes Elementary School cafeteria.

The Roy L. Burns Senior Center will hold a yard sale October 4-6. Proceeds will benefit activities at the center. Anyone wishing to donate items to the yard sale may drop them off at 108 Marshall Street. Call 706-678-2518 for any additional information.

The Downtown Development Authority of the City of Washington will have a planning session from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. October 19 in the City Hall Annex.

The Rayle City Council will meet at City Hall on Tuesday, October 10, at 6 p.m.

The Washington City Council will meet on Monday, October 9, at The Pope Center beginning at 6 p.m. A work session will precede the meeting at 5:30 p.m.

The 126th Annual Session of the Third Shiloh Missionary Baptist Association will be hosted by the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and Pastor Charles Belton. The Session will convene at the Third Shiloh’s Rev. G. L. Avery Center, 219 McLendon Drive in Washington Wednesday and Thursday, September, 27-28, 2017, at 8:15 a.m. The public is invited to attend.

Rehoboth Baptist Church will celebrate its 211th homecoming on Sunday, October 1, 2017. Rev. Donnie Walton will be the speaker for the homecoming service. Immediately after the service a meal will be served in the Christian Life Center.

Revival services will begin Monday evening, October 2, at 7 p.m. with Rev. Donnie Walton as speaker each night. Alan Ivey will lead the music. Services will continue through Wednesday, October 4. An ice cream social will follow the Wednesday evening service. Special music is planned for each night of revival.

The New Springhill Baptist Church of Philomath will celebrate its annual Family and Friends Day on the first Sunday, November 5, with Pastor Kevin Daniels of Bethel Baptist Church in Watkinsville as the guest messenger. The service will begin at 2:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 1:30 p.m.

Danny McClure, Tuesday; and Rev. Brenda Vandiver, Wednesday. Special singers will include Billy Maxwell and Deana and Bill Cradle, Sunday; Renae Hall, Monday; The New Apostles, Tuesday; Rev. Brenda Vandiver and other special singers, Wednesday. Pianist Russ Goldman and song leader Margaret Anne Locklair will lead the music. A covered dish dinner will be held at 6 p.m. on Sunday.

The Wilkes County Board of Education will meet at the board office on N. Alexander Avenue on Monday, October 16, at 2 p.m.

The Tignall City Council will meet at City Hall in Tignall on Wednesday, October 11, at 7 p.m.

The Wilkes County Board of Commissioners will meet at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 12, at the ¬≠Wilkes County courthouse. A work session in the chairman’s office will be held immediately prior beginning at 1 p.m.

The 2017 annual Wilkes County Legislative Breakfast will be held Thursday, November 30, at 8 a.m. at the Third Shiloh Rev. G. L. Avery Center .

Bethel UMC will host a “Get Provoked” Ladies Retreat on Saturday, September 30, at 10 a.m. with guest speaker Rev. Brenda (Dunn) Vandiver. Doors open at 9 a.m.

The BreasTest and More Program at the Wilkes County Health Department has help to assist in paying for mammograms for the uninsured when funding is available. Clients must be 40-64 years of age, have no health insurance, and meet certain financial requirements. Transforming Life Ministries will observe its 24th anniversary with a Street Ministry Celebration on Saturday, September 30, at noon on “Jimmy Martin’s Hill” at the corner of Whitehall Street and Hospital Drive across from the Red Roof. The theme will be “God Loves You!” and there will be preaching, praying, and praising, in an effort to be a “Jesus Witness.” Lunch will be served. The Wilkes County Sunday School Union will celebrate its 42nd anniversary at 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 1, at Springfield Baptist Church with guest minister Rev. Charles Belton of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. The public is invited.
