Enrollment growth continues through five straight semesters at Athens Tech

Athens Technical College (ATC), for the fifth consecutive semester, has seen an enrollment increase. According to the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) data center, ATC experienced growth when comparing fall 2016 and fall 2017. Total enrollment is 4,492, an increase of 6.2 percent.

Dr. Andrea Daniel, President of Athens Technical College remarked, “I am very proud and would like to thank our faculty and staff for their hard work. The College has been diligent at focusing on strategies to increase enrollment.” Dr. Daniel continued, “Athens Technical College services a 10-county area. Our mission is to meet the needs of our community through economic development. The enrollment increase is a great indication that we are educating more and more of the local workforce.”

Enrollment of ATC’s Dual Enrollment program, formerly Move On When Ready (MOWR) continues to grow. Georgia’s Dual Enrollment Program allows qualified high school students to take transferable courses that earn college and high school credit at the same time. Currently, there are 560 Dual Enrollment students at ATC. This is an increase from 412 students in the fall of 2016.

“The increase in Dual Enrollment students is terrific.” Dr. Daniel said. “We have built outstanding partnerships, with not only the school districts within our service area, but also great relationships with parents and students. Parents and students are now, more than ever, seeing the benefits of the Dual Enrollment program. Parents are able to graduate their children from high school with college credit paid for and completed.” Last year, Athens Technical College’s Dual Enrollment program saved parents approximately $447,000 on in-state tuition cost.

Since 1958, Athens Technical College has served citizens by providing quality educational programs in a 10-county service area. It offers over 130 program specializations in business, health, technical, and manufacturing-related areas. Students attend Athens Technical College on five campuses (Athens Clarke, Elbert, Greene, Walton Counties plus the Athens Community Career Academy), Adult Learning Centers, and through Continuing Education opportunities. Athens Technical College is an Equal Opportunity Institution and a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia.
