Jason Chapman 5k will host fifth running at FBC

JASON CHAPMAN JASON CHAPMAN The fifth annual Jason Chapman 5k run/walk event will be held Saturday, October 4, beginning at 8 a.m. The First Baptist Church of Washington is the sponsor and the start/ finish line will be on Robert Toombs Avenue in front of the church.

The event is named in memory of an extraordinary young man who died September 18, 2012, as the result of a tragic automobile accident. Chapman was only 26 years old and was actually preparing for his very first 5k run. He was living back in his hometown of Washington while pursuing a career in his field of study having recently completed his Master of Agricultural Leadership at the University of Georgia where he majored in Ag Communications with a minor in Animal Science. Chapman also earned an Associate of Science degree in Agriculture at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.

He was an active member of First Baptist Church and the Young Men’s Sunday School Class. He enjoyed working with the youth and participating in mission trips.

Everyone is invited to participate in this event which offers a 5k run or walk for people of all ages. The race will begin at 8:30 a.m. in front of the First Baptist Church and will run through historic Washington on a course which is relatively flat with a few rolling hills.

A kids Fun Run will precede the main event at 8 a.m.
