Iris Garden Club members gather on September 19 for new calendar year

The Iris Garden Club met Tuesday morning, September 19, at the Episcopal Church of the Mediator Parish House for its first meeting of the new calendar year.

President Elizabeth Crabbe presided and thanked the Board for delicious refreshments. She also thanked members for providing flower arrangements for National Garden Week and members who assisted at the District Meeting hosted by the Iris Garden Club in August.

Nita Latimer continued the opening ritual by reading the Collect.

In her horticultural moment Jane Bundy provided information about chrysanthemums.

Numerous items of business were discussed during which time members were reminded the next meeting will be October 3 at 10 a.m. at the Washington-Wilkes Primary School Outdoor Garden where they will participate in the No Child Left Inside event. Rain dates were announced as October 12 and 13.

Debbie Holes, first vice-president, led a discussion of upcoming programs for the year.

The club voted to join the Chamber of Commerce upon a proposal by Debbie Bennett.

Ginny King led a discussion on the upcoming No Child Left Inside event and expressed the need for volunteers to help with the project.

In her Historic Garden report Nita Latimer noted the renovations of the Robert Toombs House were going well.

Mrs. Crabbe discussed the Azalea District Meeting on October 17 in Jewell. As she reminded them of this upcoming event, she also reminded them to bring fall-themed donations to the October 3 meeting for the gift basket to be taken to the District Meeting.

Other announcements in addition to the October 3 and October 17 meetings were the November 14 meeting at the Robert Toombs House and the Christmas Tour of Homes December 8-9. She also called attention to the new mural in Tignall.
