Next OLLI meeting will explore 'Status of the American Family'

“The Status of the American Family” will be the topic explored at the meeting of the Washington Affiliate of OLLI on Monday, October 2, at 2 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Mediator.

The family is the oldest of human institutions and it is by its strength that civilizations have survived. Data on family disintegration, its causes/effects, and solutions will be reviewed during this presentation.

Presenter Jerry Smith is an independent, licensed social worker under contract with the Richmond County Department of Public Health. He specializes in working with individuals and families but also is widely sought as a motivational speaker. His publications include “It’s Still Time to Stop Blaming the White Man.”

Born in Augusta, Smith grew up in Philadelphia and New York and served in the United States Navy before completing a BA in Behavioral Sciences and an MA in Counseling at National University. He returned to Augusta in l983 after a 32-year absence.
