The First Baptist Church of Washington will host the fifth annual Jason Chapman 5K Run/ Walk on Saturday, October 14, beginning at 8 a.m. Register in the church office or online at fbcwashingtonga.org.

The annual Nancy C. Long Cancer Benefit will be held Saturday, October 14, at 10 a.m. on The Square in Washington.

The Washington Rotary Club annual Pancake Supper will be held on Friday, October 20, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Washington Wilkes Elementary School cafeteria.

The “I’d Rather Be In Tignall” Fall Festival will be held on Saturday, November 11, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

The Downtown Development Authority of the City of Washington will have a planning session from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. October 19 in the City Hall Annex.

The Wilkes County Board of Commissioners will meet at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 12, at the ¬≠Wilkes County courthouse. A work session in the chairman’s office will be held immediately prior beginning at 1 p.m.

The Rayle City Council will meet at City Hall on Tuesday, October 10, at 6 p.m.

The Washington City Council will meet on Monday, October 9, at The Pope Center beginning at 6 p.m. A work session will precede the meeting at 5:30 p.m.

The Roy L. Burns Senior Center will hold a yard sale October 4-6. Proceeds will benefit activities at the center. Anyone wishing to donate items to the yard sale may drop them off at 108 Marshall Street. Call 706-678-2518 for any additional information.

The Tignall City Council will meet at City Hall in Tignall on Wednesday, October 11, at 7 p.m.

The 2017 annual Wilkes County Legislative Breakfast will be held Thursday, November 30, at 8 a.m. at the Third Shiloh Rev. G. L. Avery Center.

A One-Night Youth Revival will be held October 7 at 6 p.m., on The Square in downtown Washington with Rev. Izayah Singleton.

The Lincoln-Wilkes Retired Educators Association (LWREA) will meet on Thursday, October 12, at 11 a.m. at the Welcome E. Mason Campus of Excellence in Lincolnton. All retired educators and friends of education are invited to support LWREA.

Heard’s Chapel Baptist Church will celebrate its Ushers Anniversary on Sunday, October 15, at 2:30 p.m. with guest speaker Rev. Robert Crawford.

Booker’s Chapel Baptist Church will hold its annual Family and Friends Day on Sunday, October 22, at 2:30 p.m. with guest speaker Rev. Lemuel Billingsley of the Good Hope Baptist Church of Athens, Georgia.

Cherry Grove Baptist Church will hold its third annual Women’s Day Conference on Saturday, October 21, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. with motivational speaker Cynthia Patione of Winterville. Refreshments will be served.

Tabor Baptist Church will hold homecoming and revival services October 15-18. Guests for these services are Renee Hall, gospel concert, Sunday morning at 10:15 a.m.; Rev. Mike Dann, Sunday evening at 7 p.m.; evening services at 7 p.m. include Rev. Alvin Rivers on Monday, Rev. Willie White on Tuesday, and Rev. Kenneth Law on Wednesday. Lunch will be served following the Sunday morning/worship services.

The BreasTest and More Program at the Wilkes County Health Department has help to assist in paying for mammograms for the uninsured when funding is available. Clients must be 40-64 years of age, have no health insurance, and meet certain financial requirements. Call the Wilkes County Health Department at 706-678-2622 for more information and to schedule an appointment.
