We must live our lives by faith

(Hebrews 11:12-22)

Through these verses, God reveals to us how He desires to work in and through our lives. When we come to repent of our sins, accept Jesus as our Saviour, and give our lives to God our Father in the name of Jesus, we are ready for God to do His work in us and through us.

Verse 12 says, “Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, as many as stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the seashore innumerable.”

What does this mean? Before we accept Jesus to be our Saviour, after we have passed the age of accountability, we are good as dead until we accept Jesus to be our Saviour and repent of our sins. Our lives are incomplete and unproductive in a lasting fashion until we come to have faith in Jesus as Saviour.

This is why God has given to us this whole eleventh chapter of Hebrews on faith in God and its importance. Until we come to have this saving faith, we are just existing without any everlasting fruit. Our physical life begins to close itself out when we draw our first breath. Only faith in Jesus Christ can give to us an everlasting adventure in our lives.

Verse 13 in this chapter says, “These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on earth.”

These verses should make us stop and think about what a tragedy it is for us to spend our life without Jesus as Saviour. We end up with only a dead physical life with no eternal future. But the real joy in life is to come to know Jesus as Saviour and know that you have someone to help you face the negative side of life and be able to turn it into a positive when our physical life comes to an end.

When we grow old in life and the physical joys of life begin to slip away from us, what are we going to do? God wants us to be able to have the best in life when old age begins to come upon us. Faith in Jesus Christ is the answer. Not more pills and treatments for our body and mind that is growing old. God wants us to have the peace of a believing faith in Jesus, His only begotten Son. This is God’s gift to us, all of us, if we will just reach out in faith and receive Jesus.

Verse 19 says this about Abraham, “Accounting that God was able to raise him up even from the dead, from which also he received him in a figure.” That is God’s answer for our life and we can all have it through faith in Jesus.
