Tigers drop doubleheader but post most ever fast-pitch wins

The Washington- Wilkes Tigers girls softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader last Wednesday to a strong Marion County team in the second round of the Georgia Class A state playoffs. The losses eliminated the team from competition with a season record of 21-10 overall.

The team will lose three seniors – Zanila Booker, Kiara Binns, and Kelsey Houpt – to graduation this year. And the 21 wins is the most wins in a single season for the Lady Tigers since the fast-pitch program began in 2004.

The girls suffered a first-game loss 4-3 as Marion County scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning off of three Tiger throwing errors.

Defense plagued the Tigers again in game two with three errors in the third inning. Then a three-run homer added to the misery as Marion County scored five unearned runs in runs in the game. The final score was 7-3.
