Marvin R. McAvoy

Graveside services for Marvin R. McAvoy, 84, of Greensboro Road were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 2, 2017, at Clark’s Station Baptist Church with Rev. Preston Sanders officiating. He died Tuesday, October 31, 2017, at his residence.

Mr. McAvoy, son of the late William Thomas and Florence Tucker McAvoy, was a lifelong resident of Wilkes County, a retired dairy farmer, and a member of the Washington First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Oleta Echols McAvoy; a son, Bruce McAvoy; and brother, Mitchell McAvoy.

Survivors include his daughter, Susan Swantner and husband Michael of Corpus Christi, Texas; sons, Roger McAvoy and wife, Jennifer, and David McAvoy; a sister, Peggy McAvoy Vandiver; and a brother, W.D. “Billy” McAvoy all of Washington; grandchildren Morgan McAvoy Lawson and husband, Tim, of Tignall, Charles McAvoy of Washington, Ginger McAvoy DiMascio and husband, Brad, of Greensboro, Laura Ellen McAvoy Christian and husband, Tom, of Smyrna, Abby McAvoy Webster and husband, Patrick, of Eatonton, Matthew Swantner and wife, Bess, of San Antonio, Texas, Emily Swantner Cunningham and husband, Blake, of Austin, Texas, Daniel Swantner and wife, Sarah, of Houston, Texas; and nine great-grandchildren.

Charles Chafin, Frank Bentley, Pete Kopecky, Dr. Gene Pollock, Buzzy Randall, Winfred Jones, Jeff Smith, David Dozier, and David Garrard served as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Clark’s Station Baptist Church, c/o Casey Jackson, 2924 Newtown Rd., Tignall, Ga. 30668.

Beggs Funeral Home of Lincolnton was in charge of arrangements.
