Salvation Army in need of bellringers for holiday season

W-WPS Principal Janet Pharr digs deep for a donation at the season’s first Salvation Army collection kettle manned by volunteer Paco Juarez on The Square during Candlelight Shopping last Tuesday. The familiar kettles, heralded by the ringing of bells, is a major source of funding for needy people locally throughout the year.

Recruitment of volunteer bell-ringers is still underway with sign-up sheets circulating to many local churches, schools, and civic organizations.

“Please consider giving an hour to ring the bell for this worthy cause,” coordinator Florence Sandifer said. “You will find it a blessing.”

Anyone can help and a stool is provided. Volunteers are needed for downtown shopping and at Ingles and Bi-Lo. Call Florence Sandifer at 706-401-1142, or Dot Harris at 706-678-2818.

The Salvation Army helps with utility bills, medical needs, food, and many other emergencies. “We continue to see many people who are unemployed, under employed, or disabled. A few have been homeless,” Sandifer said.
