Tigers impressive in season openers last week

George Anderson (left, above) led the Washington-Wilkes Tigers in an impressive season-opening win at the expense of the overmatched Nat Greene Academy Patriots. Anderson pumped in 30 points in the game including six three-pointers and six two-pointers and a staggering 75 percent sink rate from the field.

Two other Tigers shot in double figures in the 82-38 win. Deondre Lester had 13 points, and Jaylen Dunn was the only W-W player with a double-double chalking up 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Earlier in the day, the girls team had a similarly impressive win as the ladies rolled to an easy 67-29 win over the Lady Patriots.

Three Lady Tigers scored in dou- ble figures – Zanila Booker led the way with 16 points, Kiara Binns scored 11, and Kelsey Houpt got 10. Shown above, Asia Houpt goes up for two of her eight points in the contest.

No other statistics were reported or available.

Both teams hosted the Thomson Bulldogs on Tuesday of this week but games were incomplete as of press time for this edition.

Beginning Friday, December 1, they will take a three-game road trip first to McCormick, S.C.; then to Harlem on Saturday, December 2; and finally to Thomson next Tuesday, December 5.
