W-WPS students surpass goal collecting canned goods

W-W Primary School students participated in their annual food drive campaign during the month of November and were challenged to “Step up to the Plate” to reach a school-wide goal of donating 1,000 cans.

A baseball field graph was updated daily with grade level numbers. Each grade level participated in a “friendly” competition with the second grade winning the most cans donated. Second graders were treated to a cookie decorating party hosted by Principal Janet Pharr and Assistant Principal Jennifer Holton.

Overall the primary schoolers far surpassed the goal and collected a total of 1,516 donated goods for a local food pantry. “This is a great time of year to reach out to those in need and to teach our children the importance of sharing and caring for others,” Holton said.

After helping to load the trailer full of canned goods, students stopped to rest for a picture. Assisting were Shelby Callaway, Rodney Dunn, Erica Meyers, Ma’Kylie Kent, Bryson Bufford, Troy Shingleton, Xavier Gartrell, Javonte Crew, Keonta Williams, Jamie Anderson, Ansley Smith, and Dashauna Roberts. Also pictured are Food Pantry Volunteer Dave Toburen, Principal Pharr, and other food pantry volunteers Buddy Lindsey and Cliff Hargrove.
