The students of MaryLois Akins-Newsome’s second grade class enjoyed an exciting and informative field trip to the Fernbank Museum of Natural History in Atlanta where they were fascinated with a variety of interesting things.

Upon their arrival, the children toured the “Tree of Lights” from different countries around the world where each tree was decorated with items and colors native to each country.

Some of the favorite experiences for the children included the dinosaur gallery with life-size models of the Mesozoic period, the “Naturequest” Room which featured hands-on activities, live animals, a giant treehouse and rope bridge, and the science discovery room which also had hands-on science activities.

Two films were viewed in the I-Max theater that featured animals, predators, and tiny giants.

The children enjoyed lunch in the Great Hall under the “Giants of the Mesozoic Period” featuring life-size models of the dinosaurs of prehistoric Patagonia.
