Second step on God’s chosen path

(Luke 1:26-38; Matthew 1:18-25-25)

God allowed mankind to make his second step on God’s Chosen Path of Grace through Mary and Joseph, a virgin woman and a just man. God’s call came by an angel and a spiritual dream.

In Luke’s Gospel we are told, “And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, to a virgin named Mary, who was espoused to a man named Joseph of the house of David.” It is very important that we note the word virgin in reference to Mary.

The angel came to her and said, “Hail, thou art highly favored, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women.” (Luke 1:28)

God’s word, the Bible, says that Mary was troubled at the angel’s saying, and she cast her mind as to what this salutation should be. The angel said unto her, “Fear not, Mary, for thou hast found favor with God.”

Then the angel, Gabriel, said, “Behold thou shalt conceive in thy womb and bring forth a son, and shall call his name Jesus. He shall be great and shall be called the Son of the Highest, and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David.” (verse 32) (David was God’s first chosen King of Israel. Saul was chosen by the people.)

We must always be sure we are walking in God’s footsteps. Mary was certainly taking her first step on God’s path of Grace through Gabriel’s visit with her. Gabriel said, “He shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever, and of his kingdom there shall be no end.” (verse 33) Then Mary said, “How shall this be, being I know no man?” She was a virgin. We must accept his truth of God by faith.

God’s angel, Gabriel, said, “The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore, also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.” (verse 35)

Mary went and visited with her cousin Elizabeth and they both rejoiced over God’s announcements of these miracles of God brought down upon mankind through faith and belief in God.

When Mary returned home she met with Joseph, her espoused husband to be, and told him of the visit by the angel, Gabriel, and she was with child in her womb at this time.

Joseph, being a just man, was going to quietly break their engagement to be married, but while he thought on these things, he went to sleep and the angel Gabriel appeared to him in a dream and said, “Thou son of David, fear not to take thee Mary thy wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.” (Matthew 1:20)

And God’s angel added, “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins.” (verse 21)

Mary and Joseph were the second ones asked by God to come and walk on God’s Chosen Path of Grace for mankind.
