FBLA installs new officers for 2017-18 at W-WCHS

The Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School Future Business Leaders of America’s (FBLA) officers for the 2017-2018 school year were installed by chapter advisor and business education teacher Amy Harkins at a recent chapter meeting. The ceremony involved the lighting of a candle as each officer’s duties were announced to the membership in attendance.

Omar Scott and Samantha Wheatley will serve as co-presidents. They will share the responsibility of leading and encouraging the chapter in all its activities, and of presiding at all meetings.

As vice president of finances, Laney Thornton will assume the responsibilities in the absence of the president and keep accurate records of all money received and spent. She will also present orderly reports upon proper requests.

Ruth Chafin is the vice president of public relations. Her job will be to report meetings and other newsworthy activities of the chapter through the proper channels, including newspaper stories, school announcements, the chapter website, and social media.

As the vice president of membership recruitment, Sabrina Jordan will have the responsibility of promoting active membership and recruiting new members.

Samantha Harkins is the vice president of community and school relations. Her role will be to develop and promote effective chapter activities in the service of the school and community.

As the vice president of communication, Anne Marie Burriss, pledges to attend and take minutes at all meetings.

Following the installation of officers, Scott and Wheatley performed the FBLA emblem ceremony which explains the meaning of the words, future, business, leaders, and America, to the organization, and the responsibilities shared by FBLA members.
