Third step on God’s chosen path

(Luke 2:1-20

How did this third step take place? “And it came to pass in those days that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.” (Luke 2:1)

And all went to be taxed to his own city. Mary and Joseph went to Bethlehem because Joseph was of the house and lineage of David. (verse 4) “And so it was, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.” (Luke 2:6)

And she brought forth her first born son in a manger because there was no room for them to stay in the inn. Therefore Joseph found a place for them in a stable. And there were in the same county shepherds keeping watch over their sheep out on the hillside when Mary gave birth to Jesus in the manger.

Mary and Joseph wrapped Jesus in swaddling clothes and laid in the manger. While this was happening, the shepherds had a great experience with God and His angels out on the hillside overlooking Bethlehem.

All at once, God’s angel came upon the shepherds and told them all about what had happened. “And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them, and they were sore afraid.” (verse 9)

The angel said unto them, “Fear not; for behold I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.” (verses 10, 11)

“And this shall be a sign unto you, ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God.” Saying, “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, good will toward men.” (verses 12, 13)

They came with haste to Bethlehem and the manger and they found Mary, Joseph, and the baby Jesus lying in a manger. (verse 16)

“And when they had seen it, they made known aloud the saying which was told them concerning this child.” (verse 17)

The shepherds were the third ones God sent His angel to tell about God’s Chosen Path of Grace. He invited them to come and take a walk on the path, spreading the good news of God’s salvation for mankind.
