City begins new pickup schedule for daily pickup of waste, debris

In an ongoing effort to make city operations more efficient, the City of Washington will change its pickup days for yard waste and white goods.

The City is utilizing its GeoTech system to pinpoint areas that have debris. The system generates a report that tells the drivers where they need to go each morning for pickups. This alleviates the need for the driver to go down every street in the city looking for items to pick up.

With the new system, an employee only has to ride the routes twice a week instead of five days a week. They ride sections A and D on Monday mornings, and then sections B and C on Wednesday mornings looking for debris and household items. (See map above.)

The City asks that those who live in sections A and D have all yard waste in piles by the road no later than Sunday evenings. Those who live in sections B and C should have piles out no later than Tuesday evenings.

All white goods (household items) are picked up on Mondays.

If deadlines are missed, it will be the following week before pickup, so the city urges residents to try to get the items out before the cutoff for their respective sections.
