Robert Clarence Wilson

Funeral services for Robert Clarence Wilson, 75, were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at Mallorysville Baptist Church with Rev. Donny Berry, Rev. Phil Campbell, and Rev. Roy Cates officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Better known as “Possum” or “Bobby,” he died Monday, January 1, 2018, at University Hospital in Augusta.

Mr. Wilson was born September 15, 1942, in Washington, and had lived in the Tignall community all of this life. He was the son of the late Robert Claude and Louise Smith Wilson. He was retired from the granite industry. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family very much.

Mr. Wilson was the husband of Vivie Ann Bufford Wilson and had been married for 51 years. He was a member of Mallorysvile Baptist Church where he also served as a Deacon for 45 years. He was the Assistant Chief and 1964 founding member of the Tignall Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Wilson also had a love for sports, and was a founding member of the Tignall Church Softball League.

Survivors include his wife, Vivie Ann Bufford Wilson, of Tignall; a daughter, Angie W. Thornton (Mark) of Tignall; and two grandchildren, Laney Elizabeth Thornton and Jackson Alexander Thornton, of Tignall.

Active Pallbearers were Jack Bentley, Joe Burton, Ryan Burton, Ben Echols, Marc Hammond, Chet Wilson, Jerome Wilson, and Neal Wilson. Honorary pallbearers were Leon Aycock, deacons of Mallorysville Baptist Church, the Tignall Volunteer Fire Department, and Mr. Wilson’s Tignall Breakfast Club buddies.
