The 2018 annual Membership Meeting of the Mary Willis Friends of the Library will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, February 8, in the library meeting room. The public is invited to learn about the Friends, renew a membership, or join for the first time. Dr. Janice Hume of UGA’s Grady College of Journalism will speak on “Death Stories: The Evolution of the American Obituary.”

New Springhill Baptist Church of Philomath will celebrate Old Fashioned Day on the third Sunday, February 18, beginning at 10 a.m. Pastor Rufus Whitlock of Love and Action will be the messenger. Dinner will be served immediately after the service.

The new hours for the Stephen’s House Food Pantry are from 9 a.m.-noon on the third Saturday of each month.

The Rayle City Council will meet at City Hall on Tuesday, February 13, at 6 p.m.

New Ford Baptist Church will celebrate Family and Friends Day at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 11.

The 36th annual Kiwanis Talent Showcase will be held on Friday, March 16, at 7 p.m. at the Washington Wilkes Elementary School cafeteria. Applications and rules are available at all local schools and at the Mary Willis Library. The art entry deadline is March 7 at 10 a.m.

The Washington City Council will meet on Monday, February 12, at The Pope Center beginning at 3:30 p.m. A work session will precede the meeting at 3 p.m.

Weekly Bible Study takes place each Tuesday from 6-7 p.m. at Reeves Chapel Baptist Church on Sandtown Road in Tignall. Rev. Ed Anderson is the instructor. The focus during the month of January is the Book of Acts, chapters 18-28.

The Annual Doris Booker Black History Program is scheduled for Sunday, February 18, at 3 p.m. at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 306 Baltimore Road in Washington. The speaker will be Rev. Latosha Ramsey of Thomson. There will also be a display of the History of Quilting by Teresa R. Kemp. The Public is invited.

Booker’s Chapel Baptist Church of Washington will hold its Mother Board program at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 4, with guest speaker Clara Sutton and the theme “Honoring Mothers.” All women are asked to wear their fancy hats. Refreshments will be served. The public is invited.

The Wilkes County Board of Education will meet at the board office on N. Alexander Avenue on Monday, February 26, at 2 p.m.

The Wilkes County Board of Commissioners will meet at 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 8, at the ­Wilkes County courthouse. A work session in the chairman’s office will be held immediately prior beginning at 1 p.m.

Jackson Chapel A.M.E. Church will celebrate its Black History Program on Sunday, February 25, beginning at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Daccus Turman will be the guest speaker. The public is invited.

New Springhill Baptist Church of Philomath will host its annual Men’s Day Program at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 4, with Rev. Belton of Mount Carmel Baptist Church as the speaker. Dinner will be served at 1:30 p.m.

Faith Christian Center, located at 190 Newtown Road in Washington will host a music conference March 2-4. The theme of the conference will be “Tearing Down The Walls Through Unity and Praise.” Participation is free to all. Registration will begin Friday, March 2, at 5:30 p.m. Music sessions will be held Friday evening and Saturday Morning and the conference will wrap up with a praise and worship concert on Sunday, March 4, at 4 p.m. Refreshments will be served. The public is invited.

New Hope CME Church of Sharon will hold a musical program celebrating Black History Month on Saturday, February 17, at 4 p.m. with program coordinator Sis. Kessia Meyers. The public is invited.

The women of New Springhill Baptist Church will celebrate their Women’s Conference beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 31, and their annual Women’s Day Program at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 1 with Rev. Patricia Wilder as speaker. Dinner will be served at 1:30 p.m.

Heard’s Chapel Baptist Church will hold three nights of spring revival March 20-22, at 7 p.m. nightly.

The Tree of Life Worship Center will hold Bible study every Tuesday with Nicklos Stephens teaching.

The Spirited Speakers Toastmasters Club of Wilkes and Lincoln County will meet on Thursday, February 15, at 6 p. m. at the Lincoln County Library,181 N. Peachtree St, Lincolnton. Anyone at least 18 years of age with a desire to improve communication and leadership skills is invited to attend. Meetings conclude promptly at 7:15 p. m.

New Ford Baptist Church will conduct its annual Black History Program at 3 p. m. on Sunday, February 11. The guest speaker will be Rev. Lance Pitts, pastor of Gibson Grove Baptist Church and president of the Wilkes County NAACP. The Gibson Grove choir will provide the music. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
