Howell Young Jackson Jr.

Howell Young Jackson Jr., 83, died January 27, 2018, following a long illness.

He was born on August 15, 1934, in Wilkes County, Georgia, to the late Howell Young Jackson and Theresa McCarter Jackson. He was a graduate of Tignall High School and Emory-at-Oxford University. He served in the USAF, achieving the rank of Major. After serving his country, he earned his bachelor’s degree at California State University in Sacramento and attended McGeorge Law School, University of the Pacific, receiving his juris doctorate and his license to practice law in 1968.

Jackson, as Chief Counsel, worked at the Department of Veterans Affairs for over 30 years. A 20-year resident of Georgetown, California, he became a member of the Odd Fellows organization; a member of MOCA Pup Tent 49; a life member serving one term as All State Post Commander, one term as Post Commander, and continuous terms as Quartermaster of VFW Post 9241.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy (Nan) Jackson; former wife Mollie C. Jackson; daughter Anne Elizabeth Jackson-Barton (Dave); son David Young Jackson (Lydia); grandchildren Eric and Sabrina Jackson; brother Thomas Allen Jackson; sister Tina Jackson Brandt (Doug); along with many wonderful nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his youngest son, John Howell Jackson.

Jack enjoyed his many life adventures and leisure time activities of golfing, fishing, and working in his shop. He was especially grateful to be an integral part of the Georgetown community.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Cancer Society or Snowline Hospice would be appreciated.
