Morgan Bacino’s ASG shake wins 4-H Milkmake contest

Five Wilkes County 4-H’ers participated in the local Milkmake Contest in which they each created a recipe using milk or a milk product as their main ingredient to make a drink.

The students entered the contest by sending in a recipe that they would prepare before judges. They were then judged in the categories of nutrition, appeal, creativity, flavor, and presentation.

Morgan Bacino (back, right) was selected as the winner of the contest for her ASG (apple, strawberry, grape) milkshake. Judges for the contest were Lisa Sisson and Donna Hardy.

Other participants were (back, l-r) Sarah Morris with a caramel and s’more milkshake, Janie Marxsen with a strawberry pie milkshake, Jonathan Conard with apple pie in a glass, and Grey Cummins with a 4-H (Get Your Green On) milkshake. Winners were awarded a 4-H Milkmake T-shirt, and all participants received a 3-A-Day Dairy bookmark and five Bulldog Bucks for competing.

Milkmake is a Food and Nutrition Activity for Cloverleaf 4-H’ers sponsored by the Southeast United Dairy Industry Association. 4-H’ers develop skills by making creative milk drinks and in food preparation as well as public speaking. They learn more about the nutritional value and versatility of milk.
