Lions Club invites the service-minded to consider joining

The Washington Lions Club is taking applications for membership to the world’s largest service organization, Lions Clubs International. Anyone interested in helping the less fortunate in Washington and Wilkes County, is invited to consider becoming a member of the Washington Lions Club and is welcome to attend an informational meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 7, at the Washington Lions Club building, 919 Spring Street in Washington.

“The Lions Club helps people of all ages who need eye exams, glasses, and eye surgery, as well as hearing aids,” long-time Lion Olin Newby explained. “Also, the Lions Club supports local projects to help the needy citizens with food and clothing, as well as providing toys for children at Christmas time.”

Each club may choose projects and activities that fit the lifestyle of its members and impacts the community the greatest. The Washington Lions Club was organized June 17, 1940.

Interested persons can contact Newby at 706-401-2639 or olinnewby230@gmail.com. The Lions Club motto is “We Serve.”

“Come and help us serve our community as members of the Washington Lions Club,” Newby urged. “The personal satisfaction gained from such service is priceless.”
