The Wilkes County Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 10, at the ­Wilkes County courthouse. A work session in the chairman’s office will be held immediately prior beginning at 5 p.m.

The Wilsbary Book, Plant, and Bake Sale will be held at the Mary Willis Library on Saturday, May 5, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

The Washington City Council will meet on Monday, May 14, at The Pope Center beginning at 3:30 p.m. A work session will precede the meeting at 3 p.m.

The Wilkes County Board of Education will meet at the board office on N. Alexander Avenue on Monday, May 21, at 2 p.m.

The Washington Downtown Development Authority will meet at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, April 19, in the City Hall Annex.

The Rayle City Council will meet at City Hall on Tuesday, May 8, at 6 p.m.

The annual Sharon Shenanigans Community Fair will be held at the Sharon/Raytown Community House at 402 Raytown Road in Sharon on April 28 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Plans include live entertainment, tours, kids activities, music, food sales, and vendors throughout the day. Local artisans will present antiques, art, jewelry, hand-made crafts including crochet items, woodcrafts, and more. Also available will be freshly ground grits, jams, jellies, honey, plants, and commemorative T-shirts.

The First United Methodist Church men will sponsor a barbecue chicken dinner on Saturday, April 21, from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Eat in or carry out. $8 per plate. All proceeds to go towards church projects.

Gibson Grove Baptist Church will celebrate the 10th pastoral anniversary of Pastor Lance Pitts and Sis. Teresa Pitts on Sunday, April 22 at 3 p.m. with guest speaker Rev. Kenneth Alexander of Antioch Baptist Church in Atlanta. Dinner will be served.

The Washington-Wilkes Animal Shelter will hold a yard sale at the Washington Woman’s Club on Saturday, April 28, 8 a.m.- noon. All proceeds to go to the Washington-Wilkes Animal Shelter. Donations can be dropped off at the animal shelter or Lincoln County vet office. No clothes please.

Springfield Baptist Church will hold its Women’s Day program on Sunday, May 27, at 11:30 a.m. with guest speaker Rev. Kalaya S. Lee of Greater Piney Grove Baptist Church in Macon. The theme is “Women of God, Stand Up and Be Counted.”

The New Salem Baptist Church in the Tyrone Community will celebrate its 146th anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 20, with Rev. Reginald Hunter, pastor of New Springhill Baptist Church, delivering the message. A fellowship meal will be served prior to the service. The public is invited.

The Spirited Speakers Toastmasters Club of Wilkes and Lincoln County will meet on Thursday, April 19, at 6 p. m. at the Lincoln County Library, 181 N. Peachtree Street in Lincolnton. Anyone at least 18 years of age with a desire to improve communication and leadership skills is invited to attend. Meetings conclude promptly at 7:15 p.m.

The BreasTest and More Program at the Wilkes County Health Department has help to assist in paying for mammograms for the uninsured when funding is available. Clients must be 40-64 years of age, have no health insurance, and meet certain financial requirements. Mark’s Tabernacle Baptist Church will celebrate its 120th church anniversary at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 6, with Dr. Bobby G. McAllister as the guest speaker. Dinner will be served following the service.
