The revelation of Christ to us

(Revelation 1:4-6)

Jesus’ special Revelation is to the seven churches which are in Asia. I believe we can say these seven churches represent al l of the churches of Jesus Christ over the entire period of time of Jesus’ ministry on Earth. When it says the seven churches, this is a complete holy number in God’s Word, the Bible. This number seven has a Holy, Godly meaning in God’s mind and heart for mankind.

The very next statement from Jesus to John says, “Grace be unto you, and peace from him which is, and which was and which is to come.” (verse 4a) The first desire in the heart of Jesus is His desire for us as believers to experience the love of God that brings to us forgiveness of our sins against God and mankind. We must experience this in order for us to have fellowship with God through Jesus as our Saviour. Only then can we have peace, through our fellowship with Jesus by the power of his Holy Spirit.

Jesus wants us to know that this peace He gives to us comes in the present tense of our lives and is to cover the past tense of our lives before we confessed our sins to Jesus. Also, it is for our future that rescues us in our salvation, that Jesus gives to us, when we accept and believe in Jesus as Saviour.

Jesus completes his statement of promise to us when He says, “And from the seven Spirits which are before his throne.” (verse 4b) All of God’s love for us comes through Jesus when we eventually complete our journey at His throne in Heaven, when we die our physical death on Earth.

Why are we able to have all of this as a Gift from God to us while we are still in our physical bodies?

Verse five gives to us our answer from God when it says “And from Jesus Christ who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us and washed us from our sins in his own blood.” God’s complete answer of love for us is given to us in these words.

What are the results? We are told, “And hath made us kings and priests unto God and His Father. To Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.” (verse 6) God wants us to be secure in our belief in Jesus Christ, God’s only Begotten Son.
