Third Shiloh Missionary Baptist Association of Washington and the General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia, District 8, will sponsor a chaplain training class in grief counseling for pastors, preachers, and ministers from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, May 19, New Springhill Baptist Church in Philomath. New Springhill Baptist Church will celebrate its annual Juneteenth celebration from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, June 16. Marion Fedrick, interim president of Albany State University will be the speaker. Songs and music will be provided by JC and the Hartwellaires of Hartwell. The festival will include food, desserts, and drinks. There will be several events for kids.

The Southern Gospel group The Whisnants will be singing live at New Life Baptist Church on Saturday, June 30 from 6-8 p.m. This is a free event but there will be a love offering taken up for the group. New Saints C.M.E. Church will hold Vacation Bible School from May 28-June 1 with a “Game On” study series for children, youth, and adults. VBS classes will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. daily. The public is invited.

The Wilkes County Board of Commissioners will meet at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 14, at the ¬≠Wilkes County courthouse. A work session in the chairman’s office will be held immediately prior beginning at 1 p.m.

The Rayle City Council will meet at City Hall on Tuesday, June 12, at 6 p.m.

Flint Hill Baptist Church will hold a Fun Day and cookout with games and water play on Saturday, May 19, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The public is invited.

The Spirited Speakers Toastmasters Club of Wilkes and Lincoln County will meet on Thursdays, May 17, 31, June 7, and 21 at 6 p. m. at the Lincoln County Library in Lincolnton. Anyone at least 18 years of age with a desire to improve communication and leadership skills in invited to attend the meetings. Meetings conclude promptly at 7:15 p. m.

Carter’s Grove Baptist Church will celebrate its 143rd Homecoming at 11 a.m. Sunday, May 20, with special music, singing and preaching. A covered dish dinner will be served after the service.

The BreasTest and More Program at the Wilkes County Health Department has help to assist in paying for mammograms for the uninsured when funding is available. Clients must be 40-64 years of age, have no health insurance, and meet certain financial requirements. Call the Wilkes County Health Department at 706-678-2622 for more information and to schedule an appointment.

The Washington Downtown Development Authority will meet at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, May 17, in the City Hall Annex.

The Philomath Volunteer Fire Department will hold a fundraiser May 19 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Smoked Boston butts for a donation of $25 each will be available but must be pre-ordered only by May 14. The New Salem Baptist Church in the Tyrone Community will celebrate its 146th anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 20, with Rev. Reginald Hunter, pastor of New Springhill Baptist Church, delivering the message. A fellowship meal will be served prior to the service. The public is invited.
