Peggy Jones was installed as regent of the Kettle Creek Chapter, National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution, at the luncheon meeting Saturday, May 12, at the Episcopal Parish House.

Fran Thaxton led the officers in the swearing-in ceremony. In addition to Mrs. Jones, regent, installed were Amanda Aycock, vice-regent; Jane Burton, recording secretary; Lynda Smith-Woodard, corresponding secretary; Ginny Broome, treasurer; Linda Chesnut, registrar; and Anna Gunter, historian/librarian.

Prior to the installation Amanda Aycock, outgoing regent, presided and she and Fran Thaxton, chaplain, led the invocation and opening rituals. The chapter welcomed the presence of guests, husbands of members, and Mrs. Thaxton gave the blessing for the lunch.

Following lunch chapter business and reports were given.

After the installation Mrs. Jones continued the meeting.

Thad Broome of Washington-Wilkes Sons of the American Revolution chapter (W-WSAR) expressed his appreciation of Kettle Creek DAR’s participation in the grave markings of Owen Fluker and John Callaway that occurred on May 5. During both of these grave markings, representatives from Kettle Creek helped with registration and participated in the wreath-laying ceremony.

Mrs. Jones presented Mrs. Aycock a note of appreciation for her service as regent and a donation to the Church of the Mediator honoring her participation in DAR.

At the close of the meeting Mrs. Aycock expressed her thanks to all the members for their support and noted they all share the common interest – genealogy and the history of what and how we all got where we are. She noted finding your roots through DAR is an exciting journey, following a narrative started by your ancestors, all the way to YOU.

Present for the meeting were members, Amanda Aycock, Ginny Broome, Jane Burton, Linda Chesnut, Anna Gunter, Peggy Jones, Joanne Pollock, Katharine Sanders, Nancy Sisson, Fran Thaxton and guests, Garvin Aycock, Thad Broome, David Chesnut, John Jones, Gene Pollock, and Sally Philbrick.
