The annual Freedom Fireworks Extravaganza is set for Tuesday, July 3, on The Square. Festivities begin at 5 p.m.

The Washington-Wilkes Animal Shelter Association is sponsoring a raffle for a Yeti Roadie 20 cooler (20 qt.) to raise funds for the benefit of the shelter. Tickets are available at the W-W Animal Shelter, Wilkes County Veterinary Services, Lincoln County Veterinary Services, The Square Cafe, or call Stephanie Chapman at 706-401-0752. The drawing will be held June 30 at the shelter and ticket holders do not need to be present to win.

There will be a meeting of the Wilkes County Democratic Committee on Thursday, June 21, at 6:30 p.m. at the Third Shiloh Rev. G.L. Avery Center in Washington, Georgia. All Democrats are welcome to attend.

The Washington City Council will not have a regular meeting in July and will hold its next regular meeting on Monday, August 13, at The Pope Center beginning at 3:30 p.m. A work session will precede the meeting at 3 p.m.

The Springfield Baptist Church will celebrate its 150th Church Anniversary at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 8.

New Springhill Baptist Church will celebrate its annual Juneteenth celebration from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, June 16. Marion Fedrick, interim president of Albany State University will be the speaker. Songs and music will be provided by JC and the Hartwellaires of Hartwell. The festival will include food, desserts, and drinks. There will be several events for kids.

The Southern Gospel group The Whisnants will be singing live at New Life Baptist Church on Saturday, June 30, from 6-8 p.m. This is a free event but there will be a love offering taken up for the group. The Wilkes County Board of Commissioners will meet at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 14, at the ­Wilkes County courthouse. A work session in the chairman’s office will be held immediately prior beginning at 1 p.m.

The Rayle City Council will meet at City Hall on Tuesday, July 10, at 6 p.m.

The Wilkes County Board of Education will meet at the board office on N. Alexander Avenue on Monday, June 18, at 2 p.m.

The Washington Downtown Development Authority will meet at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, June 21, in the City Hall Annex.

The new hours for the Stephen’s House Food Pantry are from 9 a.m.-noon on the third Saturday of each month.

New Ford Baptist Church, 402 Bradley Road, will conduct a Super Saturday Vacation Bible School on June 23 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. for young people between the ages of four and 15. The BreasTest and More Program at the Wilkes County Health Department has help to assist in paying for mammograms for the uninsured when funding is available. Clients must be 40-64 years of age, have no health insurance, and meet certain financial requirements.
