Marvin Eugene Mercier

Graveside services for Marvin Eugene Mercier, 78, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at Washington City Cemetery with Cornell Hailey officiating. He died Friday, June 1, 2018.

Mr. Mercier was born June 11, 1939, to the late Zack and Leola Mercier. He married Dorothy Mahoney on October 21, 1960, and they raised nine children, seven boys and two girls. He was a wellknown truck driver who went by the name Q-Ball.

After retiring, he became the vegetable man in town, often traveling to the Farmers Markets in South Carolina and Atlanta in order to deliver the best produce to Lincolnton. He was a sweet and gentle man with a great sense of humor. He had a warm smile and loved sports, especially the Atlanta Braves.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; his children Willie James, John Thomas, Davis, Rickey, Bernice, Marvin Jr., Alphonzo, and Mary Ann; two brothers, Ollie and Burch; two sisters, Ruby and Annette; and a truckload of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Freddie, and a sister, Lizzie.

Norris W. Gunby Funeral Home in Lincolnton was in charge of arrangements.
