A cylinder-shaped leather tea canister from the early 1940s was a special highlight of the recent OLLI Book Club gathering.

Joanne Pollock explained, “My uncle who was with the General Electric Company in Shanghai, China, before Pearl Harbor sent it to my grandmother.” When the canister was opened, the loose tea was perfectly preserved.

The book club met in the home of hostess Ginny King on West Robert Toombs Avenue when they celebrated a “tea” theme. In addition to the vintage tea canister, others shared personal tea items that included a teapot collection by Carol Cartledge and authentic tea cups and a tea cake from China by Renee Brown.

The book, The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane by Lisa See, was the May study selection.

Present with Ginny King were Joanne Pollock, Betsy Wagner, Elizabeth Crabbe, Roy Smith, Belinda Peebles, Dackie Callaway, Carol Cartledge, Renee Brown, and Ruth Rogers.
