Area residents are now able to take advantage of free medical and health screenings and exams thanks to a program called the East Central Georgia Medical Innovative Readiness

Training.

Through July 18 at The Pope Center on Lexington Avenue, a team of about 25 military service men and women are conducting the screenings and exams from 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. daily and from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday. The program provides free health screenings, no-cost eye exams, no-cost single-vision glasses, sports physicals, and even dental work including fillings, extractions, and limited cleaning.

There is no cost for any of the services and no one will be turned away regardless of income.

The City of Washington, along with the U.S. Department of Defense and the CSRA Regional Commission, is hosting the event which came about through a grant in partnership with Thomson, Warren County, Jenkins County, and Taliaferro County.

“This is a great opportunity for our residents and we want to make it the best it can be so that they choose to come back to Washington in the future,” City Administrator Sherri Bailey said. “We hope people will help to make this a great event that we can be proud of and that will surpass events they have had in other communities,” she added.

For more information, call 706- 210-2000 or attend the event at The Pope Center.
