The BreasTest and More Program at the Wilkes County Health Department has help to assist in paying for mammograms for the uninsured when funding is available. Clients must be 40-64 years of age, have no health insurance, and meet certain financial requirements. The descendants and connected families of Daniel Lumpkin Walker and Margaret Elizabeth Stephenson Walker will meet for their annual reunion on Sunday, August 19, at Fishing Creek Baptist Church. A covered-dish lunch will be served at 1 p.m. Old family photographs, documents, and genealogy information will be on display. All descendants of Lumpkin’s parents, Tarlton W. Walker and Sarah Headen Walker, are also invited to attend.

The Washington Little Theater will present a “Showcase of Talent Variety Show” on Saturday, September 15, at 7:30 p.m. Directed by Tonya Harper, talented performers from Wilkes and Lincoln counties will offer a variety of acts including singing, dancing, rapping, piano solos, and more, all led by an entertaining master of ceremonies.

The “WORD” Bible Study Class will hold its annual tent service on Saturday, September 15, at 415 Lexington Ave. (vacant lot across from Jackson St.) at 11 a.m.

Clifford Grove Baptist Church of Rayle August events include a homecoming service on Sunday, August 12, at 11 a.m.; revival Tuesday-Thursday, August 14-16, with guest speaker Rev. Michael Benton of Fairfield Baptist Church; WOW Meeting on Saturday, August 18, at 10 a.m.; and Men of Standard Breakfast on Saturday, August 25, at 9 a.m. September events include a fun day at CGBC on Sunday, September 16.

Clark’s Station Baptist Church will have its homecoming service on Sunday, August 12, at 11 a.m. with revival services beginning on August 13 at 7:30 p.m. There will be no Sunday night service. The guest speakers will be Rev. Chris Townsend on Sunday morning; Rev. Brian George on Monday; Rev. Adam Denny on Tuesday; and Rev. Jim Newsome on Wednesday. There will be special music each night.

New Hope C.M.E. Church (138 Kendrick Mill Rd., Sharon) will hold three nights of revival August 15-17, at 7:30 p.m. nightly with Rev. Johnny Low of True Vine Baptist Church of Augusta on Wednesday; Rev. Audrey Hawkins of Mineral Spring Baptist Church of Sandersville on Thursday; and Rev. Luther Rogers of New Hope Christian Baptist Church of Thomson on Friday.

The Washington City Council will hold its next regular meeting on Monday, August 13, at The Pope Center beginning at 3:30 p.m. A work session will precede the meeting at 3 p.m.

The Washington Downtown Development Authority will meet at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, August 16, in the City Hall Annex.

The Washington-Wilkes Historical Foundation will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, August 9, at the Washington Woman’s Club. Dr. David Nobel of Atlanta will present “Things about Col. Cost is $10 for members and $20 for non-members to be paid at the door.
