Sunday School Union convenes at Mt. Carmel Baptist July 27-29

The Wilkes County Sunday School Union convened at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church from July 27-29 when Rev. Charles Belton served as host pastor and Enoch Booker Jr. served as host superintendent.

The session was opened by President Enoch Booker Jr. Devotional services were led by Jimmie Harris and Johnny Mills. Singing was led by the Twin Oak Baptist Church choir.

The sermon was preached by Rev. Paul Hull, entitled “Transformed” taken from Romans 12:2. Rev. Hull led the benediction.

The Saturday session was opened by acting president Larry Smith. Jamie Johnson and Larry Williams led the devotional service. The youth devotional leader was Joshua Johnson. The welcome was given by Thomas Mills. Myra Heath taught the 45-minute Bible lesson. Youth Bible teacher was Nellie Cofer with the lesson coming from St. Mark 4:1-20.

The doctrinal sermon was preached by Rev. Michael Gresham using scriptures from II Corinthians 5:15-18, with the title, “A New Creature.” The youth session was led by the director of the youth department, Francine Towns. A literary program was presented by Joshua Johnson and Marvina Gaye. Benediction was led by Rev. Ed Anderson.

The Sunday morning session was opened by President Booker. Devotional services were led by Joe Harden and Leroy Burse. Rev. Ed Anderson presided as Sunday School superintendent. The lesson was entitled “Parable of the Great Dinner” taken from St. Luke 14-15-24.

The inspirational address was presented by Mable Edwards, entitled, “Forgiveness.” The missionary sermon was delivered by Rev. James White Jr. and entitled, “Harassed and Helpless” taken from St. Matthew 9:36-38. Singing was by the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church choir. Hos- pitality remarks were given by Essie Cofer. President Booker thanked all the delegates and Union members for their support during this session. Benediction was led by Rev. White.

The next session of the Union will convene September 28-30 at Twin Oak Baptist Church. The Sunday School Union’s 43rd anniversary celebration will be held October 7 at 3 p.m. at Reeves Chapel Baptist Church where Rev. Michael Gresham will serve as the host pastor and Thomas Gresham as host superintendent. The guest speaker will be Rev. James McIver of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Officers of the Union are Enoch Booker Jr., president; Rev. Lance Pitts, vice-president; Robin Booker, secretary; Melvene Binns, assistant secretary; and Larry Smith, treasurer.
