City attorney receives state award from GMA

Washington’s City Attorney Barry Fleming (fourth from left) was presented the “Champion of Georgia Cities Award” as part of Monday’s regular meeting of the City Council. Tom Gehl, Director of Government Relations for the Georgia Municipal Association, presented the award, calling Fleming a true public servant and friend to city government.

“Fleming knows the importance of state assistance in keeping cities healthy, vibrant, economic centers,” Gehl said. “He has truly been a constant and altruistic friend to local government taxpayers throughout Georgia and he is a wonderful ambassador for the cities of his district.

“As an influential member of the House Governmental Affairs Committee, he was truly a champion of Georgia Cities by sharing his expertise in the workings of local government on critical legislation ranging from annexation, to water and sewer, elections, infrastructure, and a host of other municipal issues,” Gehl added.

Congratulating Fleming on the award were city officials (l-r) Mike Scarborough, Travis Armour, Marion Tutt, Nathaniel Cullars, Maceo Mahoney, Ames Barnett, Peewee Armour, and Sherri Bailey.
