Storm spotter training class to be held here on Sept. 25

The Wilkes County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), in partnership with the National Weather Service in Peachtree City will conduct a free Skywarn Storm Spotter Training class on Tuesday, September 25, at 6 p.m.

Skywarn is a volunteer program with more than 230,000 trained severe weather spotters. The volunteers help keep local communities safe by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the National Weather Service.

Anyone with an interest in the weather should attend including amateur radio operators, law enforcement and fire personnel, emergency management teams, boaters, and even the general public.

Topics covered in the training will include the importance of storm spotters, the basics of thunderstorms, relationships between the NWS, media, and EMA, basic radar interpretation, identifying severe weather features, how to report, and storm spotting safety and awareness tips.
