New uniforms get praise, enjoy support

I have received many positive compliments on the Tiger Band’s new uniforms from people who are glad they are looking good representing our school and community. I am still overwhelmed and thankful for all the support given for our new uniforms and new brass instruments. For our supporters not able to attend the football games, please ride by the stadium and take notice of our appreciation banners.

The marching band has increased in size every year under the direction of Miss Emme Hines and we are now 60 students strong. This year the increase is due to a large number of eighth graders moving up and joining the marching band. They are an awesome group of rookies working hard to memorize their music and marching steps and fitting right in with their new band friends. I want to encourage them to keep up the hard work and practicing at home.

Thank you to the following who sponsored some of our band students making it possible for them to participate in band: Thompson Gas and Oil, State Farm Insurance, Young’s Fashion, CJ’s Pizzeria, Pierce and Joyce Barden, Charlie and Dena Burgess, Double D Maintenance, Hendricks Florist, Dr. Alicia Finnell, Kut-N-Up Barber Shop, Davenport-McLendon Mortuary, and Tena’s Fine Diamonds and Jewelry.

We have many students in need of a sponsor to help with their band fees and if you would like to help, contact Miss Hines at hinese@wilkes.k12. ga.us or mail a donation with instructions on how you want your donation applied.

Thank you to Wings-n-Things for your donation and checking on us every year. You are one of the few that supports us without being asked and that means so much. A huge thank you to Lynn Shealey from South Carolina and the First Baptist Church of Washington Youth Group giving donations for new colorguard supplies. The new flags will look great matching the theme of our show and will earn us extra points at our competitions.

Please allow me to clear up some confusion about donating to the Tiger Band. Many times I have asked for a donation and been turned away with “I’ve already given to the Tiger Club which is shared with the band.” This statement is false! We are two separate groups and after some research I haven’t found proof they have ever been combined. The Tiger Club supports all school athletics and the W-W Band Boosters supports the school music program. We each are an organization with our own officers holding separate monthly meetings. We would never want to take away support from the Tiger Club and therefore would accept any amount no matter how small. Your donation will always be appreciated.

Join us Friday, September 21, for Tiger Band Night honoring Steven and Daphne Albertson for their continued support for two decades.
