Canvassing and phone bank training for the Democratic Party will be held every Monday at the Marks Tabernacle Baptist Church Annex, 224 Lexington Road in Washington. The training will be provided throughout the day at 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m., 4 p.m., and 6 p.m. A field agent will be on hand every Monday until 8 p.m. All volunteers for the Democratic Party are needed and welcome.

The 38th annual Mule Day – Southern Heritage Festival will be held at Callaway Plantation five miles west of Washington from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, October 13. Admission is $10 per car.

The 53rd annual WashingtonRotary Club Pancake Supper will be held from 5-7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 2, at the Washington-Wilkes Elementary School cafeteria. Everyone is invited. Tickets are available at the door, or in advance from any Rotarian for $7 each.

The BreasTest and More Program at the Wilkes County Health Department has help to assist in paying for mammograms for the uninsured when funding is available. Clients must be 40-64 years of age, have no health insurance, and meet certain financial requirements.
