Cultural resource surveyors will be in town starting Tue.

The City of Washington has hired consulting firm WLA Studio to conduct a cultural resource survey made possible by a Historic Preservation Fund grant received in May of this year. The goal of the project is to identify properties built before 1978 that are eligible for potential historic designation.

Beginning next Tuesday, October 16, a consultant team will start field work to look for properties that appear to fit the criteria. For properties that fit the criteria, the survey team will take photographs of the front elevation and an oblique view. The information collected will focus on each building’s architecture, including building type and form, historic details, exterior materials, and other features. Significant landscape features will also be recorded if present.

For the duration of the survey, the team will tour the areas on foot and will have a letter from the City of Washington identifying them. You may see team members walking around neighborhoods carrying clipboards and cameras, collecting information and photographs of buildings constructed prior to 1978.
