The annual Wilkes County Legislative Breakfast will be held at 8 a.m. Thursday, November 29, at the Third Shiloh Rev. G. L. Avery Center. Tickets ($13) should be reserved as soon as possible and may be picked up at the Washington-Wilkes Chamber of Commerce office on The Square.

The Tignall City Council will meet at City Hall on Wednesday, November 14, at 7:30 p.m.

Springfield Baptist Church will celebrate its pastor’s anniversary and Family and Friends Day on Sunday, December 16, at 11:30 a.m. marking the 23rd anniversary for Rev. and Mrs. Norman and Lynette Williams. The Springfield mother church its pastor, Rev. Kevin Madden and First Baptist Church of Washington, are the special guests. A fellowship dinner will be served immediately after the service at Third Shiloh’s Rev. G.L. Avery Center.

Carter’s Grove Baptist Church will hold a cemetery fundraiser dinner on Saturday, November 10, from 5-7 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. $10 donations for adults and $5 donations for children under 10 are suggested. For more information, call Joyce Blackburn at 706-401-9353.

Shady Grove Baptist Church will hold its usher board anniversary at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, November 11, with guest speaker Rev. Keith Isaac. The public is invited.

Pole Branch Baptist Church will celebrate the 16th anniversary of Pastor Joe L. Glaze at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 11, with guest speaker Rev. Larry Norman, pastor of Flint Hill Baptist, Pompey Chapel Baptist, and Grove Baptist Churches. The public is invited. Dinner will be served.

Carter’s Grove Baptist Church will celebrate with a Thanksgiving Revival at 7 p.m. nightly Monday Wednesday, November 12-14, with evangelist Branda Vandiver and special music, singing, and preaching. Light refreshments will be served after each service.

The Washington City Council will hold its next regular meeting on Monday, November 12, at The Pope Center beginning at 3:30 p.m. A work session will precede the meeting at 3 p.m.

Jackson Chapel AME Church is holding its fall revival at 7 p.m. through Thursday, November 8, with Rev. Samuel Tompkins and Greater Bethel AME Church of Athens on Wednesday; and Rev. Greta Fowler and the New Zion Hill AME Church of Thomson on Thursday. The public is invited.

Candlelight Shopping in downtown Washington will be held from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, on The Square with stores open late, tree lighting, and Snow on The Square. There will also be music, prizes, and more.

Faith Christian Center will celebrate the third pastoral anniversary of Pastor Daccus Turman and the 30th church anniversary at 4 p.m. Sunday, November 11, with speaker Rev. Cedric Quinn of First Baptist Church of Lincolnton. The public is invited. Dinner will be served.

New Ford Baptist Church will celebrate the 18th anniversary of Rev. James White at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, November 11. The guest preacher for the occasion will be Rev. George Edwards and the choir and members of Thankful Baptist Church will be special guests. The community is invited to attend. Dinner will be served in the church fellowship hall immediately after the service.

New Saints C.M.E. Church will celebrate its annual usher board program on Sunday, November 11, at 3 p.m. with guest speaker Dr. Kenneth Walker, senior pastor and organizer of Temple of Faith Bible Church in Atlanta, and native Wilkes Countian. Refreshments will be served.

The Wilkes County Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. on Thursday, November 8, at the ¬≠Wilkes County courthouse. A work session in the chairman’s office will be held immediately prior beginning at 5 p.m.

Members and friends of New Ford Baptist, Reeves Chapel Baptist Church, Pole Branch, Thankful, and Trinity will be welcomed at New Ford Baptist Church at 10 p.m. Monday, December 31, for the annual Watch Night service. Deacon Larry Smith will serve as master of ceremonies. The Wilkes County Community is invited to attend.

The Ministerial Alliance and New Ford Baptist Church will conduct the annual Veterans Day worship service at 7 p.m. Sunday, November 11 at the Rev. G.L. Avery Center at Third Shiloh. First Sergeant (Ret) Frank Jenkins, a decorated army veteran and retiree, will be the guest speaker. The community is invited to attend.

A “Healing Night of Worship” benefit concert sponsored by the Virtuous Women of Praise will be held at 5 p.m. (doors open at 4:30) Saturday, November 17, at The Pope Center featuring musical guests Roxanne Broadnax of Atlanta; The Anointed Believers of Athens; Rev. The BreasTest and More Program at the Wilkes County Health Department has help to assist in paying for mammograms for the uninsured when funding is available. Clients must be 40-64 years of age, have no health insurance, and meet certain financial requirements.
