Tiger band gets needed support from many

I want to thank the parents and friends of the Tiger Band for donating bottled water and snacks. The Tiger Band just completed its fourth competition and was supplied with plenty of water and snacks to keep the students going. Kimberly Rainey arrived early every morning of competition delivering snack bags that she, parents, and the W-W Tiger Band alumni purchased and packed the night before. Thank you to the parents who helped pull the trailer making sure the instruments arrived safely and on time.

A big thank you to the folks that ran the concession stands helping to raise the money to pay the entrance fees to the band competitions. Success of the Tiger Band is because of the support of our parents stepping up and volunteering. I especially want to thank Yasmine Adams for serving as president and going beyond contributing more to the Tiger Band than any parent. Her sacrifice is appreciated because without her, the Tiger Band wouldn’t have been able to attend competitions.

The Tiger Band is in need of a new trailer and alumni president Ernest “Bo” McEathron has started fundraising as well as trying to encourage past band members to join the alumni to support the program. He has started a “Go Fund Me” account on Facebook where you can easily make a donation online or you can contact him at 706- 401-9732.

If you are unfamiliar with the condition of the band trailer, please drive behind the gym and take a look. The wood on the door is rotten and being held by duct tape. The entire top is rusted. It is extremely heavy requiring a diesel engine to pull it. There is no ramp to load the xylophones and heavy instruments, not to mention it is a terrible representation of our school and community.

This is a big project because the inside will also need to be equipped with lighter storage compartments to be built and bolted to the walls. If you would like to help with a donation, fundraising, or volunteering time to build the inside compartments, check out Mr. McEathron on Facebook or mail a donation to the W-W Band Boosters c/o W-W Tiger Band Alumni making checks payable to the Alumni.

The Tiger Band is thankful for the hard work the McEathrons gave running one of the concession stands and making it their priority to support larger projects. I really hope many of the past band members will lend support and inquire how they can help.

Currently the W-W Band Boosters are raising funds for the annual UGA Janfest to which the most talented band students earn invitations. Students pay their entrance fee and food for three days and the boosters provide lodging. This is a great opportunity giving students exposure to a college atmosphere and learning under a renown music director. If you would like to help with this event, donations can be made to the WW Band Boosters.
