The Washington Seventh-Day Adventist Church is sponsoring a Christmas toy giveaway and concert on Saturday, December 8, at 3 p.m. at the Third Shiloh Rev. G.L. Avery Center.

Wilkes Transit and the Roy L. Burns Senior Center will be closed December 24-28 and will re-open December 31.

Purpose of Life Ministries will hold an afternoon worship service on Sunday, December 30, at 3 p.m. at The Pope Center with guest speaker Apostle Dorothy Nelson of House of Faith Holiness Church of Wrens.

Purpose of Life Ministries will hold “An Evening of Praise and Worship” on Monday, December 31, at 7 p.m. at The Pope Center with speakers Minister Morris Duncan of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Lincolnton and Pastor Teresa Grave-Wright of Hands of God Outreach Ministry of Warrenton.

Springfield Baptist Church will celebrate its pastor’s anniversary and Family and Friends Day on Sunday, December 16, at 11:30 a.m. marking the 23rd anniversary for Rev. and Mrs. Norman and Lynette Williams. The Springfield mother church, First Baptist Church of Washington, and its pastor, Rev. Kevin Madden, are the special guests. A fellowship dinner will be served immediately after the service at Third Shiloh’s Rev. G.L. Avery Center.

The Washington Downtown Development Authority will meet at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, January 17, in the City Hall Annex.

The Wilkes County Board of Education will meet at the board office on N. Alexander Avenue on Monday, December 17, at 2 p.m.

Flint Hill Baptist Church will hold its annual Christmas Breakfast on Sunday, December 16, at 10 a.m. The public is invited.

The Washington-Wilkes Parks and Recreation Department is holding sign-ups for boys and girls basketball, now through December 14. The age groups are 5-7, 8-9, 10-12, and 13-15. Registration fee is $35.

The Washington City Council will hold its next regular meeting on Monday, December 10, at The Pope Center beginning at 3:30 p.m. A work session will precede the meeting at 3 p.m.

The Wilkes County Board of Commissioners will meet at 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 13, at the ¬≠Wilkes County courthouse. A work session in the chairman’s office will be held immediately prior beginning at 1 p.m.

Stephen’s House Food Pantry (God’s Marketplace) is open every third Saturday of each month, 9-11 a.m. at The Sanctuary Church, 1365 Tignall Road.

Mulberry Baptist Church will celebrate the 25th pastoral anniversary of Rev. Robert Crawford on Sunday, December 16, at 11:45 a.m.

Members and friends of New Ford Baptist, Reeves Chapel Baptist Church, Pole Branch, Thankful, and Trinity will be welcomed at New Ford Baptist Church at 10 p.m. Monday, December 31, for the annual Watch Night service. Deacon Larry Smith will serve as master of ceremonies. The Wilkes County Community is invited to attend.

The BreasTest and More Program at the Wilkes County Health Department has help to assist in paying for mammograms for the uninsured when funding is available. Clients must be 40-64 years of age, have no health insurance, and meet certain financial requirements.
