The Wilkes County Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 10, at the ­Wilkes County courthouse. A work session in the chairman’s office will be held immediately prior beginning at 5 p.m.

New Salem Baptist Church will hold a prayer breakfast and workshop on Saturday, January 12, at 10 a.m.

The W-WCHS Class of ’79 will hold a planning meeting at Wings and Things on Saturday, January 12, 2019, at 3:30 p.m. for its 40- year class reunion. All classmates are invited to attend.

Mt. Carmel Baptist Church will hold its annual deacon board program on Sunday, January 20, 2019, at 3 p.m. with guest speaker Rev. Matthew Harden from Tabernacle Baptist Church of Lincolnton. The public is invited.

The UCAP annual Martin Luther King Jr. birthday parade will begin at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 21, at the old laundromat next to the Wynn residence on Whitehall Street. Lineup will begin at noon. The BreasTest and More Program at the Wilkes County Health Department has help to assist in paying for mammograms for the uninsured when funding is available. Clients must be 40-64 years of age, have no health insurance, and meet certain financial requirements. Call the Wilkes County Health Department at 706-678-2622 for more information and to schedule an appointment.

The Roy L. Burns Senior Center (108 Marshall St.) will hold its quarterly advisory council meeting on Tuesday, January 15, at 10 a.m.

The Third Shiloh Missionary Baptist Association will host a community meeting on Thursday, January 31, 2019. This “very important” meeting will be held at the Rev. G.L. Avery Third Shiloh Missionary Baptist Association Building at 7 p.m. Some “vital” information will be shared.
