Happy 2019, readers! I hope everyone has enjoyed a blessed holiday season. Now, it is back to the daily grind – with the added bonus of trying to work in some resolutions. I do not care for that word, so I set goals each January instead. Goals seem more attainable and can be measured concretely. Whatever your “new year” method may be, best of luck!

. Looking back into last year, December was a busy month in Rayle, and it got a bit hectic in our house. On Tuesday, December 18, Maebrynn, Kellbry, and I traveled to Athens to see Hayden Canup perform in a piano recital at Cornerstone Church. Hayden is the daughter of Sean and Misty Canup of Arnoldsville and a dear friend of Maebrynn.

. Madeline Reeves, Liz Spooner, McKenzie Spooner, and I attended the John Berry Christmas concert at the Imperial Theater in downtown Augusta on Thursday, December 20. We dined at Bonefish Grill before the show. Madeline was kind enough to organize the outing and drive us there.

. Liz Spooner hosted her annual holiday gathering on Friday, December 21. She was joined by all of her children and several local friends, as well as Joey and Heather Smith and Ryan of Stillwell. Maebrynn and Kellbry spent the night following the party and were excited to spend time with Ryan.

. Maebrynn joined Hayden Canup and her parents at The Classic Center in Athens on Saturday, December 22. They attended a performance of The Nutcracker.

. Tom and Gloria Wheatley enjoyed Christmas Eve dinner at the home of Carl and Vickie Sisson in Washington. Also joining the Sissons were Richard and Lisa McAvoy, Taylor McAvoy, Amy McAvoy and her friend Benjamin Benedict, Mike and Christine Wheatley, and Mildred Sisson.

. Liz Spooner hosted Christmas Eve at her home and was joined by Mike Cappella, Trent and Mary Kate Dauler and Jed of Woodville, Andrew, Wes, and McKenzie Spooner, Greg and Madeline Callaway, and Kelly, Maebrynn, Kellbry, and me.

. Joshua and Samantha Parker and Hallie hosted Christmas dinner at their home with turkey and dressing and sides. Joining them were Kenneth Poss and Martha Taylor Wilson, Cecile Poss, and Justin and Nichole Dooley and Kayleigh and Morgan.

. Kelly, our three girls, and I traveled to Millen on Christmas Day to spend time with the Reeveses. My aunt, Millie Reeves, prepared a meal at her home, and the children were visited by Santa there. We then gathered at the home of my parents, Lee and Donna Fennell Reeves, for more festivities.

. Pat and Bardahl Armour hosted Kelly, the girls, and me on Sunday, December 30, for a belated Christmas dinner.

. Brooke Welborn of Washington visited J.W. and Bonnie Boatwright on Monday, December 31. Johnny Boatwright also visited on Monday.

. Kelly and I hosted family on New Year’s Day. We all ate plenty of black-eyed peas and collard greens to prepare for the coming year.

. Rev. Jim Newsome visited J.W. and Bonnie Boatwright during the morning of Wednesday, January 2. Later in the day, Martha Jones drove Bonnie to an appointment in Athens. They enjoyed lunch at Sonic.

. Lamar and Kay Berry visited J.W. and Bonnie Boatwright on Thursday, January 3.

. Happy belated birthday to Samatha Poss Parker and Nichole Poss Dooley! They celebrated their special day on January 8. Many happy returns and warm wishes for your next year, ladies.

. Please remember in prayer the loved-ones of Mr. Hugh Randall Denard during their time of loss.
