The Washington-Wilkes Historical Foundation will host a Happy Birthday Celebration for the City of Washington from 7-10 p.m. Friday, January 25, at the Washington Historical Museum.

The UCAP annual Martin Luther King Jr. birthday parade will begin at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 21, at the old laundromat next to the Wynn residence on Whitehall Street. Lineup will begin at noon. The annual Wills Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Carat Cupcake Event will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, January 24, at Tena’s Fine Diamonds and Jewelry in downtown Washington.

New Ford Baptist Church will conduct its annual Black History Program at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, February 10, 2019, with Wilkes County native and retired Marine Corps veteran Deacon Larry Dunn of Young’s Chapel Baptist Church and McDuffie County Schools as the featured speaker. Music will be provided by the Springfield Baptist Church Young Adult Choir under the direction of Sister Toni Binns. The public is invited.

New Ford Baptist Church will celebrate its annual Family and Friends Worship Service at 2:30 p. m. Sunday, March 10, 2019.

Memory Lane Cruisers club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 5, in the old fellowship hall of the First United Methodist Church. Visitors are welcome.

The Wilkes County Board of Commissioners will meet at 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, at the ¬≠Wilkes County courthouse. A work session in the chairman’s office will be held immediately prior beginning at 1 p.m.

The BreasTest and More Program at the Wilkes County Health Department has help to assist in paying for mammograms for the uninsured when funding is available. Clients must be 40- 64 years of age, have no health insurance, and meet certain financial requirements. Call the Wilkes County Health Department at 706-678-2622 for more information and to schedule an appointment.
