The Washington-Wilkes FFA is hosting a Boston Butt fundraiser for pickup on Tuesday, March 26, at the Young Farmers Building on North Alexander Avenue between 4 and 6 p.m. rain or shine. The cooked Boston Butts will be 8-10 pounds each. Those interested should contact a local FFA member. The price is $30 and money is due by March 1.

The 2019 Miss Wilkes County and Little Mister Pageant is set for February 23. Deadline for submitting applications is February 15. Applications are available at the W-W Chamber of Commerce, Bee Southern, and Tena’s Fine Diamonds and Jewelry. Again this year, the Washington Woman’s Club is sponsoring a $500 academic scholarship in the Miss Division.

The Lincoln-Wilkes Retired Educators Association will meet Thursday, February 14, at 11 a.m. at the Mary Willis Library. All retired educators and friends of education are invited.

The Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of Rayle will hold its black history program on Sunday, February 24, at 2:30 p.m. The public is invited.

Twin Oak Baptist Church will hold its black history program at 11:15 a.m. Sunday, February 24, with guest speaker Rev. Sheena

Jennings of New Springhill Baptist Church. Dress is casual. Dinner will be served.

New Ford Baptist Church will celebrate its annual Family and Friends Worship Service at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2019. Dinner will be served after the service.

Solomon Pool Church of Intensive Care will host a one-night revival with Apostle Ronald Ssali on Wednesday, February 20, at 7:30 p.m.

The Wilkes County Democratic Committee will have a caucus at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 19, at the Rev. G.L. Avery Center in the Third Shiloh Building in Washington. All registered Democrats all welcome and encouraged to attend.


Heard’s Chapel Baptist Church will hold its spring revival Monday Wednesday, March 18-20, at 7 p.m. nightly.

New Hope C.M.E. Church in Sharon will hold its annual black history musical on Saturday, February 16, at 4 p.m. The public is invited.

Faith Christian Center will host a praise and worship conference March 8-10, entitled “Unbroken Praise.” Workshops include adult choir, male choir, teen choir, and praise dance. There is no charge for the conference, but preregistration is encouraged. For more information, call the church at 706-678-4270. The public is invited. Refreshments will be served after the service on March 10.

The Solomon Pool Church of Intensive Care will host a “Sweetheart Banquet” at 7 p.m. Friday, February 15. For tickets or additional information, call 864-554- 3092. The church also conducts worship services on Sundays at 11 a.m.; drug and alcohol addiction classes every second and fourth Tuesday at 7 p.m.; and Bible study every second and fourth Wednesday at 7 p.m. Peggy W. Zellars is the pastor.

The Wilkes County Board of Commissioners will meet at 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, at the ­Wilkes County courthouse. A work session in the chairman’s office will be held immediately prior beginning at 1 p.m.

Stephen’s House Food Pantry (God’s Marketplace) is open every third Saturday of each month, 9-11 a.m. at The Sanctuary Church, 1365 Tignall Road.

The Tignall City Council will meet at City Hall on Wednesday, March 13, at 7:30 p.m.

Mt. Carmel Baptist Church (306 Baltimore Rd.) will hold its annual Doris Booker Black History Program at 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 17, with Mrs. Sara Johnson Willis of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of Rayle as the featured speaker. The public is invited.

The Washington City Council will hold its next regular meeting on Monday, March 11, at The Pope Center beginning at 3:30 p.m. A work session will precede the meeting at 3 p.m.

The Rayle City Council will meet at City Hall on Tuesday, March 12, at 6 p.m.

The Washington Downtown Development Authority will meet at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 19, in the City Hall Annex.

The Wilkes County Board of Education will meet at the board office on N. Alexander Avenue on Monday, February 25, at 2 p.m.

The BreasTest and More Program at the Wilkes County Health Department has help to assist in paying for mammograms for the uninsured when funding is available. Clients must be 40-64 years of age, have no health insurance, and meet certain financial requirements. Call the Wilkes County Health Department at 706-678- 2622 for more information and to schedule an appointment.
