WWE Superstars have long had quick stints in Hollywood, from memorable roles like Andre the Giant in the Princess Bride to more fleeting cameos, like Hulk Hogan in Rocky III, but recently, more have become stars of the big screen. Now, you can likely name at least a couple of big-time Hollywood actors who started their careers in professional wrestling, which is a testament to the company continuing to find charismatic talents.

With a bunch of names currently working in Hollywood and featuring in blockbuster movies, WWE fans can’t help but wonder which of their Superstars will be next to get a call-up. There are already several WWE stars with vast followings and a net worth Therealbrittfit would be jealous of, but may still be waiting for a producer to give them a call.

Here’s the WWE’s recent string of success in Hollywood, who the biggest stars in the squared circle are today, and who could soon break into Hollywood.

We seem to be in somewhat of a golden era of acting talent emerging from the WWE. As mentioned, smaller and side character roles have been etched out in the past, but right now, three names in particular are finding that their phones won’t stop ringing from Hollywood executives. The big three are Dwayne Johnson, Dave Bautista, and John Cena.

Top of the pile is clearly Johnson. Known as “The Rock” in the WWE, he enjoyed a few stints on the big screen while more active as a wrestler, but in the last four years or so, he’s come into his own as a Hollywood star. In 2020, according to Men’sHealth, he topped the list of celebrity earners, having the potential to earn more than $20 million per movie. At the box office, the highest-earning film that The Rock has featured in is Furious 7, which pulled in $1.5 billion worldwide, while his best outing as the star was Jumanji (2017) for $961 million.

Dave Bautista has certainly found his way into the mainstream as a part of massive, popular franchises – particularly those of the sci-fi genre. He plays Drax the Destroyer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, featuring in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, which combined for over $4.6 billion worldwide. He’s also in the Dune reboot duology and Blade Runner 2049. John Cena is the newest to join the celebs in Hollywood, featuring in Bumblebee, The Suicide Squad, and lending his voice to the main character in Ferdinand.

WWE’s current biggest stars

The WWE garners millions of viewers, and most of the time, the writing naturally lends the fandom to the champions and those who get to come out with the best moves in the ring. Right now, the power rankings created by NBC Sports Edge see the two primary champions as the highest-ranked. This sees Roman Reigns on top as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion and Bianca Belair just behind as the Raw Women’s Champion. Other champions, at the time of writing, include Ronda Rousey, Austin Theory, and Günther.

This is also reflected heavily in the WWE’s other promotional materials and branded products. The most recent big-hit release in this regard has been WWE Clash of the Wilds. As shown by the online casino Betway, the game features two former champions and favourites, and the two reigning stars of the show: John Cena, Charlotte Flair, Roman Reigns, and Bianca Belair. The latter two are the faces of the franchise right now, which is why they are the key elements in the slot game so it can appeal to as many fans as possible.

You could also look at the best merchandise sales on the WWE Superstar eCommerce site. Roman Reigns was the highest merchandise seller for a while, but in October 2024, the title of the best merchandise seller went to Bray Wyatt, who returned to the company that month. Other reports throughout the year have regularly found Alexa Bliss to be the highest-earning active wrestler, often behind “Stone Cold” Steve Austin.

Will the WWE’s biggest stars make it into Hollywood?

Roman Reigns looks to be the next breakout WWE Superstar in Hollywood. He’s never been as popular as he is in his current stint with wrestling fans, with his locking horns with Brock Lesnar being as big as soccer rivalry Revierderby for wrestling fans. Plus, he’s already dipped his toes into the movies. Reigns played Mateo Hobbs in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw alongside Dwayne Johnson – his non-biological, first cousin once-removed – had a small role in The Wrong Missy, and voiced Ramarilla in Rumble.

Bianca Belair doesn’t look to be too far behind joining Reigns. On August 25, 2024, Variety broke the exclusive news that she had signed with WME to represent her in all areas. Being a massive Hollywood agency, a career in film is almost certainly on the horizon for the Raw Women’s Champion. Then, there’s the mega merchandise-shifter Alexa Bliss. She has made it clear in the past that she’d like to be in a movie one day, and in June, she got to congratulate Liv Morgan on landing a role in a movie with Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson.

Who will follow Dwayne Johnson, Dave Bautista, and John Cena into major movie roles in Tinseltown? Right now, the champions Reigns and Belair look to be the best bets, but few would count out the very likeable Bliss getting into Hollywood at some point.
